About the Journal
Teatrets Teori og Teknikk (TTT) was founded by Eugenio Barba and published by Odin Teatret Forlag between 1965 and 1974. Published in Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish, the journal circulated throughout Scandinavia and became an important forum for the exchange of ideas on theatre theory, actor training, dramaturgy, directing, and contemporary performance practices.
Across twenty-three issues, TTT documented and disseminated some of the most significant debates, texts, and working methods in twentieth-century theatre. The journal brought Scandinavian readers into contact with a wide range of international theatrical thought and practice, including writings by and about Jerzy Grotowski, Vsevolod Meyerhold, Bertolt Brecht, Antonin Artaud, Zeami, Eugenio Barba, and many others.
TTT was closely connected to the artistic and research environment surrounding Odin Teatret and contributed to the circulation of ideas that played an important role in the development of contemporary theatre practice in Scandinavia and beyond.
Digital Archive
This digital archive provides access to the complete historical run of Teatrets Teori og Teknikk. It preserves the original issues while making their individual contributions accessible for study, research, teaching, and documentation.
The archive is organised issue by issue and article by article, allowing readers to consult the original material directly and to navigate the journal’s complete publication history. The Journal is published online within the digital platform of theJournal of Theatre Anthropology (JTA), founded by Eugenio Barba in 2021. Its inclusion within the JTA platform places the historical archive of TTT in continuity with a broader editorial and scholarly project devoted to theatre, theatre anthropology, performance research, and the transmission of theatrical knowledge across generations.
The purpose of the digital archive is both documentary and scholarly: to preserve the journal as a historical source and to make its contents more easily accessible to researchers, practitioners, students, and readers interested in twentieth-century theatre.
Website and Digital Implementation
The website and digital archive have been designed and implemented by Leonardo Mancini (University of Turin, Italy) in September 2026.
The work includes the organisation and presentation of the historical collection, the adaptation of the OJS platform to the visual identity of Teatrets Teori og Teknikk, and the development of the digital interface through which the journal can be explored and consulted.
Rights and Access
The digital archive is made available for study, research, teaching, and documentation purposes.
Rights relating to the original journal, individual texts, images, and other materials remain with their respective rights holders where applicable.
The digital presentation and website implementation are intended to support the preservation, consultation, and scholarly use of the historical collection.
